If they had a loved one who was a victim of sexual assault, they'd surely know better. Or, if they'd thought for even a little while. A lot of the problem is the rape culture we have in this country that encourages this kind of insensitive trivializing of something so serious. I'm all for making light, for the use of humor to scrub away at the filthy aspects of human nature. Care must be taken, however, to ensure there is merit enough to justify potentially triggering someone so deeply. If it doesn't elevate discourse or forward a useful new viewpoint, it's definitely not worth it for a cheap shock laugh which only appeals to the base, violent human aspect.

How was their show? Did you say anything to them before or afterwards about their choice of team name?

Re: Silence so loud

Poignant.

Re: #PHXDC: challenges and gifts

Should I count this post as part of your final project? ;) Since so much of my work has to do with professional/organizational/institutional/issue identity, place identity is something else I think about quite a bit. And I agree that PHX has some challenges in this area; as in most cases, I would argue that it mostly comes down to issues of communication. Words are important, including words that aren't said.

Re: Final Countdown

Congratulations on your move.
